Class Level Descriptions

Intro

New to yoga?  Been a while? Our intro classes are the best place to get started. These classes are offered as series classes, five week sessions, to give the new student a solid introduction to the asana (movement), breath and meditative aspects of a yoga practice. Everyone is welcome to attend our intro classes.

All Levels

These classes are open to all students.  The intent is  to deliver a balanced practice, with a good overall stretch and some deepening of the breath.  Adaptations will be offered for students who want to work a bit easier and for those who want to take things up a notch.  Practices will vary depending on participants' needs for each class.  We encourage everyone to work at their own pace and tune in to any challenges in the body.

Gentle and Gentle/Level 1 (Therapeutic)

These classes are for you if you're new and/or need to work a bit more gently in class.  If you are recovering from an injury, have chronic pain,  joint issues, or just want to move more intentionally through the practice, this class is a great option.  The pace of the class will give you time to comfortably transition between postures (stretches) and teach you how to protect knees, hips and wrists as well as offer other adaptations that may be required.  Everyone is welcome to attend our Gentle classes.

Level I – II

These classes are for students with some prior yoga experience. If you’ve taken an introductory class, been away from a regular class for a while or been practicing on your own, this is a great class for you. All levels are welcome to these classes. Each class is adapted to the needs of the students and class.

Level II – III

These classes are for students with prior yoga experience, who are ready to take things up a notch. If you are practicing and/or taking classes regularly, are in good shape and ready to work more deeply with the postures, breath, meditation and possibly sound, this class is for you.

Somatics Workshop with Ed Barrera  www.gravitywerks.com

Ready to take your Yoga or your favorite activitiy to the next level?
The world's oldest exercise is known as a pandiculation and you did it in your mother's womb.  In fact, all healthy vertebrate animals continue to pandiculate in order to remain agile, in balance, mobile and pain-free. A pandiculation is a full body contraction.  When you see your cat, dog or chipmunk stretch in the morning, they are actually pandiculating.  They are using their cortex to wakeup their nervous system so they can do all the wonderful movements that animals do.

This innate intelligence has been lost mostly in the human animal.  It's been de-programmed out of us.
Your brain sets you up to program movement.  Somatics is a way to re-program your brain so your muscles generate a different output, mainly a lower more relaxed one which allows you to enjoy all of your other movement practices and activities at a higher level.
Hanna Somatic Education® is the original form of Somatics created by Thomas Hanna, the author of Somatics who coined the term to describe "the body experienced form within".

Eduardo Barrera is a Hanna Somatic Educator® who has been teaching Somatics for 8 years.  He teaches people how to effectively reset their brain so you can enjoy a lifestyle free of pain.  He knows since he used to live with Fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition. He's appeared in several books on chronic pain and was just in New York doing an interview for an upcoming Gary Null show.
